Remote – Part-Time or Full-Time Position

We currently have freelance editing jobs available for experienced editors to edit scholarly articles submitted to academic and scientific journals.

The freelance editing jobs available offer qualified candidates a fabulous opportunity to work from home by reading and editing new and engaging scholarship. We send the electronic documents of our clients to our freelance editors, who then make corrections and improvements on their own computers and return the edited files by the requested deadline. These positions are a perfect fit for retired scientists and academics who wish to supplement their income while learning about recent developments in their fields, parents with patches of free time available between the demands of childcare and underemployed university instructors looking to top up their earnings.

Remuneration

The rates of pay start at £6 ($8.50 USD) per 1,000 words, and a FREE editing course is provided.

All transactions between PRS and freelance editors are carried out electronically via email: PRS sends the editor an article (usually in Microsoft Word) via email, and the freelance editor returns the edited version in the same manner within a set amount of time.

Qualifications

We hire only native speakers of English for our freelance editing jobs. English is not the first language of many of our clients, but they nonetheless find it necessary or desirable to write and publish their research in this language, so it is imperative that our proofreaders are able to help them communicate their ideas and discoveries in a clear, accurate and sophisticated fashion. Therefore, only candidates who are extremely proficient in written English will be considered for these positions.

Our freelance editing team is also highly educated, with all members holding at least a master’s degree and some a PhD. These experts are familiar with the written styles of academic and scientific writing as well as the kind of intellectual content and structural formatting appropriate for journal articles and other scholarly documents. In particular, all applicants for our freelance editing jobs must have a thorough understanding of academic referencing techniques in a variety of styles, including APA, Chicago, Vancouver and many others. Also beneficial is experience as a university instructor, lecturer or examiner.

A working knowledge of Microsoft Word is necessary for the freelance editing jobs available at Proof-Reading-Service.com. The grand majority of our clients send us their writing as Word documents, so that is the format in which virtually all editing is conducted. Changes must always be recorded for our customers and sometimes explanations are required as well, which means that our editors must know how to make good use of Word’s Track Changes and Comment functions. Experience with LaTeX may also prove helpful, as a few of our clients submit their writing in that program.
