Part-Time or Full-Time Position

We currently have remote editing jobs available for experienced editors to edit scholarly articles submitted to academic and scientific journals.

The remote editing jobs available offer academics, scientists and researchers a fantastic opportunity to set their own hours while working from home. With no more than a computer, a copy of Microsoft Word and an internet connection, our editors put their education and formidable skills to work while expanding their horizons with the latest research in their own and related fields. These positions will prove a perfect fit for parents who are busy with child rearing but have a little time free for more esoteric activities; for retired scholars who want to help younger colleagues while keeping their fingers on the pulse of developments in their fields of expertise; and for part-time instructional or research faculty who want to supplement their income.

Remuneration

The rates of pay start at £6 ($8.50 USD) per 1,000 words, and a FREE editing course is provided.

All transactions between PRS and remote editors are carried out electronically via email: PRS sends the editor an article (usually in Microsoft Word) via email, and the remote editor returns the edited version in the same manner within a set amount of time.

Qualifications

First and foremost among the qualifications for our remote editing jobs is the need to be a native speaker of the English language. Many of our clients are not, yet they discover that they want or need to report and publish their research in English, so they send us their work to make sure they are communicating clearly with their audience and producing a high-quality document that will achieve publication in a scientific journal or through an academic press. All candidates for these positions must therefore be extremely proficient in the English language.

Another essential requirement is an advanced degree. All of our editors hold at least a master’s degree and some have earned PhDs, so they are familiar with academic and scientific discourses as well as the formal prose styles used in publishable books and papers, and some also boast experience as teachers and examiners. Applicants for our remote editing jobs must have a thorough understanding of the techniques and formats associated with a variety of academic and scientific referencing styles.

Although computer requirements for our remote editing jobs are minimal, all candidates must be able to use Microsoft Word efficiently. The Track Changes and Comment functions of this program are especially important for recording corrections and adjustments to clients’ documents and for explaining these alterations when necessary. Experience with LaTeX is also beneficial, as we occasionally receive LaTeX documents for editing.

A desire to discover all errors, inconsistencies and ambiguities in research-based writing and aim for absolute perfection in helping our clients produce the best documents possible is what we seek and foster in our editors. In addition, we demand from all successful candidates for our remote editing jobs both respect and confidentiality for the research and writing of our customers. We also insist that the deadlines requested by clients be met at all times.
