Global – Part-Time or Full-Time Position

We currently have remote proofreading jobs for experienced candidates who are able to proofread scholarly articles submitted to academic and scientific journals.

The remote proofreading jobs offer researchers, academics and scientists an engaging job with enormous flexibility. All proofreading is done at the proofreader’s own home (or anywhere else he or she chooses to work), and the hours dedicated to proofreading each week are determined by the proofreader. These positions are therefore perfect for part-time instructors or researchers who wish to supplement their income and parents who have free time for proofreading between the demands of child rearing. They are also extremely popular among retired academics and scientists who want to stay informed about new developments in their fields of expertise and help their younger colleagues in the process.

Remuneration

The rates of pay start at £6 ($8.50 USD) per 1,000 words, and a FREE proofreading training course is provided.

All transactions between PRS and remote proofreaders are carried out electronically via email: PRS sends the proofreader an article (usually in Microsoft Word) via email, and the remote proofreader returns the proofread version in the same manner within a set amount of time.

Qualifications

To be a successful applicant for our remote proofreading jobs you must be a native speaker of English. Many members of our international clientele are not native speakers of the language, so they count on us when they want or need to publish and circulate their research in English. Our proofreaders check the writing of these scholars to ensure accuracy, clarity and a professional quality document worthy of publication in the best academic or scientific journals. Significant proficiency in the English language is therefore required of all our proofreaders.

All of our remote proofreaders also hold advanced degrees at least at the master’s level, and some have earned PhDs. This requirement guarantees their familiarity with the formal prose styles appropriate for their respective disciplines and with the formats and techniques associated with the various referencing systems used to record citations and sources in academic and scientific writing. Teaching and examining experience is also an asset for candidates applying for our remote proofreading jobs.

Experience with Microsoft Word is imperative for our proofreaders, and this includes a working knowledge of that program’s Track Changes and Comment functions. Since our clients submit their writing for proofreading as electronic documents, our proofreaders use these functions to record the changes they make and explain why those changes have been made whenever that proves necessary. Our customers send LaTeX documents for editing much less frequently, but experience with that program can also be helpful for our remote proofreading jobs.
